Senator Michael Doherty, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations committee, issued the following comments regarding the slow restoration of power in North Western New Jersey:
“The late October record snowfall and high winds caused significant damage to homes, businesses and the power distribution grid in New Jersey. People are suffering, particularly the old or infirm.
“The high winds, combined with saturated soils caused trees and other vegetation to bring down power lines. This has caused dangerous power outages across the district. As of noon today nearly 23,000 electric customers in the three counties I represent were without power, more than four days after the storm.
“I urge JCP&L to seek help from other public utilities to speed the restoration of power.”
