Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean issued the following statement regarding estimates released today that project up to $267 million in savings from the recently enacted pension and health care benefits reform.
“Earlier this year landmark pension and healthcare benefits reform were passed by a bipartisan coalition of legislators. That reform package is already starting to reap benefits. The projected savings for the current fiscal year is estimated to be up to $267 million.
“I am pleased that this bipartisan reform is bearing fruit so quickly. It demonstrates that the reform plans my colleagues and I have been calling for, for years, will restore fiscal responsibility to New Jersey.
“I urge local officials to return this savings to the taxpayers. The state’s long-suffering property taxpayers deserve to benefit directly from this bipartisan reform.”
