Christie Ends New Jersey’s Participation in RGGI
Senator Michael Doherty, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement in support of Governor Christie ending New Jersey’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. (RGGI)
“Governor Christie moved decisively today to end New Jersey participation in a scheme that penalized the state’s taxpayers for pollution that originates in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Two states that do not participate in the RGGI. This proposal never made any sense for the environment or the people of the state.
“The decision to abandon RGGI has gained bi-partisan support, and support in other states, as the evidence continues to mount that the program is ineffective and expensive. From the outset the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative was a job killer. We can grow jobs and businesses and protect the environment at the same time without having to sacrifice one for the other.”
