“Someone who just lost their husband or wife should not have to worry about whether or not they can drive their spouse’s car,” said Corrado (R-40). “This legislation will remove unnecessary government red tape and allow surviving spouses to use their decedent’s vehicle until the registration expires. The last thing someone needs to worry about after the death of a loved one is a trip to the motor vehicle commission.”

Under current law, a surviving spouse may operate a motor vehicle under a decedent’s registration certificate for 30 days.

Corrado’s bill, S-3424, allows the surviving spouse, or other family member, to operate the decedent’s vehicle until the registration expires.
