“I am extremely pleased this bill was signed into law today. These small, but important updates to the advertising guidelines of the alarm and locksmith industries are long overdue,” said Singer (R-30). “Virtually every successful business, whether small or large, has a functioning website. There is simply no need to require license number information in ads—the business web address is more than satisfactory. This legislation will help cut red tape for our local businesses and encourage a more streamlined advertising production process.”
Currently, licensed business in these industries must include the license number of the business and any professional in advertisements.
Singer’s bill (S-2497/A-4065), now law, allows burglar alarm, fire alarm, and locksmithing businesses to post a website address in advertisements to direct consumers to in order to indicate to the public the license number information of the business.
If a website address, or URL, is used in advertisements in lieu of the license numbers, the license number information must be located in a clear and conspicuous manner.
