The bill signed today, A-4556/4145/S-2611, requires BPU to utilize the access service to provide advance notice of every public meeting and hearing conducted by the board seven days prior to the meeting date.
“Updating the process will make it easier for users to submit filings and make comments, and improve public access to documentation, rulemakings and meeting schedules,” said Bateman (R-16). “These long overdue improvements will enhance efficiency and transparency at BPU.”
The new law, Bateman said, will also make is easier for ratepayers to stay informed about changes that could affect their pocketbooks and services.
“Improved access will benefit members of the public who wish to comment on BPU hearings or actions. They can make their opinions known and participate in the decision-making process, and this measure will increase transparency and accountability,” Bateman said.
