“More than 400,000 veterans call the Garden State ‘home,’” said Testa. “Every eligible veteran should utilize this tax relief. Easing the financial burden for former service members is a small way to show our thanks for their sacrifices.”

New Jersey veterans who have been honorably discharged or released under honorable circumstances from active duty in the Armed Forces are eligible for a $6,000 exemption. This exception was doubled to its current amount in 2019.

“Cape May County has more veterans than any other county in New Jersey,” said McClellan. “Our office will continue to spread the word to make sure as many veterans as possible benefit from this well-earned exemption.”

Applicants need only apply the first year they claim the exemption.

“The Legislative District 1 Team is committed to supporting veterans throughout South Jersey,” said Simonsen. “Making New Jersey more military and veteran-friendly will encourage more service members and their families to put down roots in the Garden State.”

Veterans interested in applying may complete this form and submit it to the New Jersey Division of Taxation.
