Senator Kristin Corrado is volunteering her legislative district office as a collection point for donated food as the holiday season approaches.

Sen. Kristin Corrado’s Thanksgiving Food Drive will be accepting donations at her district office in Totowa through Nov. 21. The food will help local food banks feed needy families in the area.

“Hunger is an ongoing concern for thousands of our friends and neighbors. The demand on food pantries reaches its peak at this time of year as temperatures plummet and the winter holidays approach,” said Corrado (R-40). “Thanksgiving grew from a seasonal celebration of the bountiful harvest, so this is an ideal time to collect canned goods and other food staples to stock the shelves of local food banks.”

The deadline for Corrado’s Thanksgiving Food Drive is Thursday, Nov. 21. Canned soup, tuna, fruit, vegetables and beans are needed. Macaroni and cheese is a favorite, and stuffing and gravy are especially desirable at this time of year. Jars of peanut butter, tomato sauce and dry foods including soup, powdered milk, pasta and rice, whole grain cereals, and dry beans are also in demand.

“Life can get hectic this time of year, and families in need often have difficulty putting food on the table,” Corrado said. “Caring New Jerseyans who regularly contribute to food banks can become distracted by daily pressures, so food drives now are critically important to fill the void. We’re hoping shoppers will pick up a little extra when they buy the groceries, and drop off a bag or two at our office to help feed local families.”

Donations can be delivered to Corrado’s office located at Suite 350 of the Totowa Commerce Center, 999 Riverview Dr., Totowa. For more information, call the office at 973-237-1260, or email
