“I am pleased that the state Department of Environmental Protection rejected PennEast’s pipeline permits,” said Bateman (R-16). We do not want and do not need this environmentally damaging, property-value dropping nuisance in our backyards. Hey PennEast – stay off our land!”

Bateman has unequivocally opposed the pipeline from its inception. He created a petition to stop the PennEast Pipeline, which garnered thousands of signatures.

The proposed pipeline would carry natural gas on a 120-mile journey from Pennsylvania to New Jersey. The 36-inch pipe could cut over the Delaware River and through some of New Jersey’s most beautiful landscapes in Hunterdon and Mercer counties.

“I have devoted much of my time in the Legislature protective New Jersey’s open spaces and natural resources from damage and destruction,” added Bateman. “I am proud to stand up and fight for my constituents and my community, who are overwhelmingly opposed to PennEast. Hopefully this decision is the nail in the coffin for the pipeline.”
