“Whenever I vote on legislation in committee and on the Senate floor, two fundamental concerns are always in the back of my mind – my constituents, and the U.S. Constitution,” Doherty said. “If a bill may hamper citizens’ rights or heighten taxes, I will stand up and do what’s right for the people of New Jersey. My voting history speaks for itself – I am proud to be a fiscally conservative leader in the great Garden State.”
Senator Doherty received a 96% ranking from the American Conservative Union (ACU), the nation’s oldest conservative grassroots organization. According to the ACU scorecard, Doherty is the highest rated conservative state senator in New Jersey.
In a letter sent along with his “Award for Conservative Excellence,” the ACU said, “we are pleased to present you with an award… recognizing your conservative voting record this past session. …you voted consistently with the ideals articulated in the U.S. Constitution: limited and transparent government, individual rights, personal responsibility, and lasting cultural values.”
“New Jersey families are being crushed by the tax and spend policies imposed by Democrat politicians in Trenton,” Doherty added. “One of my key legislative priorities is to reverse our state’s course and make New Jersey more affordable for all. I am honored to be recognized by the ACU for my work, and I will continue to be a strong supporter of lower taxes and smaller government.”
