Grewal, the former Bergen County Prosecutor, was approved unanimously the Senate.
Cardinale made the following remarks on the Senate floor prior to the vote:
“Gurbir is a very exceptional human being. He was appointed to be prosecutor in Bergen County. There was a lot of resistance because he was not part of the good old boys network.
“He proved to the people of Bergen County through his meritorious action that he was more than up to the job.
“He did the job in an exceptional way, and he earned the respect of the people of Bergen County. He is going to continue to do an exceptional job for the people of our entire state.”
“I believe that Gurbir is one the best Attorneys General we’re ever going to have in the State of New Jersey.”
Grewal, a Democrat, was appointed in 2016 by Governor Christie to serve as Bergen County’s top law enforcement officer.
Prior to his term as county prosecutor, Grewal was Chief of the Economic Crimes Unit at the United States Attorney’s Office in New Jersey.
