Sen. Steve Oroho and Assemblyman Parker Space today commended the award of more than $130,000 in community services block grants to provide food and diapers to low-income families. Gov. Chris Christie and the state Department of Community Affairs announced the grants to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Inc. and NORWESCAP, a private non-profit serving the low-income population of Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren counties.

Sen. Oroho and Asm. Space announced two grant awards that will help local food banks. (

“This is good news for people and families struggling to make ends meet in a state with some of the highest taxes in the country. This funding can be the difference between children going hungry or getting enough to eat,” said Oroho.

The Community Food Bank will get a special program grant of $110,236 to distribute fresh produce through their partner network, and diapers through their diaper bank program.

NORWESCAP is the recipient of a $20,000 award to increase food and diaper supplies at food banks.

“Nutritious food is essential for every member of a family, especially pre-school and school-age children,” said Space. “The demand on food bank resources increases as the cold weather and holidays approach. It’s reassuring that these organizations will provide indispensable assistance to as many people as possible.”

Oroho and Space represent the 24th Legislative District, which includes Sussex and parts of Morris and Warren counties.
