New Jersey State Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-Morris, Essex, Passaic) called on transportation network services business Uber to cease operating in New Jersey.

Following questions of Uber’s tax and regulatory compliance, Sen. Joe Pennacchio has called on the transportation company to cease operating in New Jersey. (

“Uber has constantly fought against being included in the New Jersey regulatory system,” Pennacchio said. “This system provides that the cars transporting clients are safe, their drivers are not criminals and in case of injuries covered by the proper liability insurance.”

Questions have also arisen why Uber is not paying the proper sale taxes, as is required by taxis and limousines.

“The process of getting rudimentary regulations in place to protect the consumer is being stonewalled by Uber,” said the Senator.  “Their counterparts, the taxi and limousine associations have been more transparent and willing to come to some type of resolution.”

Senator Pennacchio, a member of the Senate Transportation Committee, is sponsoring S-2742, which would give the state oversight over this new transportation network.
