Bridge to Be Named the “Veterans of All Wars Memorial Bridge”
Legislation designating the State Highway Route 35 bridge between Brielle and Point Pleasant Beach as the “Veterans of All Wars Memorial Bridge” was signed into law by Acting Governor Kim Guadagno at the American Legion in Brick Township.
Acting Gov. Kim Guadagno signed into law a bill sponsored by Holzapfel, Wolfe and McGuckin to designate the Rt. 35 bridge between Brielle and Pt. Pleasant Beach as the “Veterans of All Wars Memorial Bridge” on January 6, 2015 at the American Legion in Brick Twp. (SenateNJ.com)
The bill, S-1027/A-3758, is sponsored by Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Dave Wolfe and Greg McGuckin (all R-10) to honor the men and women who have served in our country’s armed forces.
“The brave men and women who fought for our freedom should be remembered for their heroism and sacrifices they endured for our country. Just as this bridge has weathered storms and served the Jersey Shore community so have our American soldiers who braved hardships and served the nation. It now stands as a testament to their courage and resilience,” the legislators said.
The bridge was designated as the “Veterans of All Wars Memorial Bridge” in 1951, but the resolution expired that same year. This bill makes the designation permanent.
Under the measure, the Department of Transportation is authorized to receive private funds to pay for the costs associated with producing, purchasing, erecting, and maintaining signage.
