Jersey Shore Republican Senators Urge House Approval of Remaining Sandy Aid

With the U.S. House of Representatives poised to vote on $51 billion in disaster aid for Sandy recovery and relief, Senators Joe Kyrillos (R- Monmouth), Jennifer Beck (R- Monmouth), Robert Singer (R- Ocean), Jim Holzapfel (R- Ocean), Chris Connors (R- Ocean), and Sam Thompson (R- Ocean) issued the following statement urging passage of funding package:

Prior to Sandy, the federal government has never hesitated in stepping up with financial assistance to communities and states devastated by natural disasters. Even in an era of intense partisanship, victims of Hurricane Sandy should be treated no differently. They are Americans like everyone else.

New Jersey is a donor state that sends far more to Washington than it receives in return. There is nothing responsible about denying the 11th most populous state in the union the resources it needs to revive a huge segment of its economy that was destroyed by the storm.

Without the funding being considered today, there will be severe human consequences for hard working, tax paying Americans who should be able to count on the government they support in times of crisis. We encourage all Members of Congress, from all political stripes, to do the fair, moral, and compassionate thing and vote in favor of this aid package.
