Senator Michael Doherty, a member of the Senate Education Committee, announced today that he will present his “Fair School Funding” plan to the Morris County School Boards Association at a meeting in Montville on Thursday, February 16.
The Senator has proposed a new school funding formula that is fair and equitable to all students in the state – urban, suburban and rural. The new formula would be implemented by a constitutional amendment that would have to be approved by voters.
The proposed constitutional amendment would provide equal school aid for each student, regardless of where the student resides. New Jersey needs to establish a fair, simple, transparent, and straightforward educational funding formula that takes the income tax fund and distributes the fund equally to each student in order to control property taxes.
