“Enough businesses have been destroyed, enough jobs have been lost by the Governor’s defenseless edicts, and continuing on that same path only ensures more economic and emotional pain,” said Senator Michael Testa. “We must end the failed policies that have suppressed life in the state. It’s about time to learn from the Administration’s mistakes and open up the economy.

They also stressed that he needs to continue this action in the coming weeks particularly as we get closer to Memorial Day.

O’Scanlon, DiMaso and Scharfenberger welcomed today’s news that the Governor signed an order allowing non-essential businesses to open for curbside pickup and drive-in theaters to operate, but emphasized the need to lift more restrictions before Memorial Day. (WikiMedia)
“We appreciate that the Governor has taken this positive action in reopening some of our businesses. The data has shown that it’s time. We have said multiple times that our residents have overwhelmingly complied with quarantine and social distancing guidelines.

“The pandemic has dragged on for two years now and countless New Jersey residents remain on the outside looking in, unable to access the basic government services they expect and need,” said Senator Holzapfel. “People are fed up and they feel they have been abandoned by Trenton. Murphy has directed some state workers to stay home and collect a paycheck without going to the office to do their jobs. The situation is inexcusable, and it has to end now.”
Corrado: Murphy Must Keep His Promise to Reopen All State Government Offices on 10/18

“Important State offices, including unemployment walk-in centers, have been closed for nearly 19 months and completely inaccessible to New Jerseyans,” said Corrado (R-40). “Given the long wait, I hope the rumors aren’t true that some offices may have their reopenings pushed back beyond the date the governor set for his administration to get back to work. It would be yet another failure of leadership if Governor Murphy delayed the full reopening of State government any longer.”
Holzapfel, McGuckin and Catalano: Businesses Take Another Hit from Murphy as Payroll Tax Increases to Fund Unemployment
Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano are speaking out against Governor Murphy’s plan to replenish the unemployment insurance fund with a $250 million payroll tax hike on employers. The 10th District Legislators are criticizing the Governor for continuing to hurt businesses in the state.

A major payroll tax increase on employers will jeopardize New Jersey jobs, said Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano. (SenateNJ.com)
“We are in this mess because of the Governor’s executive orders which delayed the reopening of many businesses and forced hundreds of thousands of pandemic unemployment claims to be filed,” Senator Holzapfel stated. “Our caucus urged Governor Murphy to divert $6.2 billion in federal American Rescue Plan aid to offset the unemployment payouts, however, our requests were ignored and now our business owners are stuck with the bill.”

“Why do we continue to play these games? After a full year of being told what to do, New Jerseyans deserve better. It’s time to rip the Band-Aid off and open everything up,” said Oroho. “Let’s do it!”
Bucco: Murphy’s Mismanagement of Unemployment System Hurting Workers, Businesses & NJ’s Economic Recovery
Unemployed Workers Who Need Benefits Still Not Getting Paid, While Freeloaders Refuse to Work Impeding NJ’s Economic Recovery
Senator Anthony M. Bucco said Governor Phil Murphy’s continued mismanagement of New Jersey’s unemployment insurance system is hurting both workers and businesses that are struggling to recover.

“We have this perverse situation where unemployed workers with families still can’t get their benefits approved by the Murphy administration, while freeloaders who could go back to work continue to get checks they no longer deserve,” said Bucco (R-25). “I still have constituents who have been waiting months for their claims to be approved, and I have a growing number of businesses telling me that workers would rather stay on unemployment than return to work. On both sides of the equation, the Murphy administration is at fault.”

“Although many dining establishments have already taken measures to protect patrons from the coronavirus, so much of the guidance they receive varies by county or municipality,” said Bucco (R-25). “My legislation will provide clear and practical requirements for these businesses, which will be applied universally across New Jersey, so that they can recover and reopen as quickly as possible.”
Testa/Simonsen/McClellan: Introduce Legislation Fully Opening MVCs and Call on Murphy to Restore Full Government In-Person Services
Following the introduction of Senate Legislation that requires the Motor Vehicle Commission to provide all vehicle and licensing services in each of New Jersey’s 21 Counties, Senator Michael Testa, Assemblyman Erik Simonsen, and Assemblyman Antwan McClellan issued the following statement demanding that the South Jersey MVCs be open for all services:

For nearly a year, the North Cape May and Vineland MVC Centers are not open for registration and title services for residents of South Jersey. (SenateNJ.com)
“For nearly a year, the Murphy Administration and outgoing Commissioner Sue Fulton have left little but a trail of excuses on why the Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland County communities are without full services to the MVC. South Jersey families are forced to travel hours and miles away from their own local MVC to complete routine tasks; such as registration and titles which cannot be completed online. Too often, many make the drive only to be frustrated with office closures due to failures to contain the spread of COVID-19 within state-run centers.
