Senators Tom Kean Jr., Joe Pennacchio, Anthony Bucco and Steven Oroho stated the following regarding today’s advancement of legislation they sponsor to rename State Highway Route 53 after the late Assemblyman Alex DeCroce:

“Alex DeCroce is eternally missed in the halls of Trenton, as well as his district,” said Republican Leader Kean (R-Union, Morris). “We miss his wit, his charm and his passion for improving New Jersey. He was an extraordinary leader to work with and we would not have been able to accomplish such significant achievements for our constituents without his deeply devoted service.”

“Alex DeCroce was one our state’s greatest leaders, a loving husband, father, grandfather and true friend,” added Pennacchio (R-Morris). “We miss him every day in the 26th district. Renaming this highway after a man whose years of dedicated service left an indelible imprint on the communities of Morris County is a true and fitting tribute.”

The senators S2580 designates State Highway Route 53 as “Alex DeCroce Memorial Highway.” Assemblyman DeCroce passed away on January 9, 2012 after representing the 26th District for 23 years.

“Alex DeCroce was a friend and mentor to legislators and constituents over his decades of public service,” said Bucco (R-Morris). “You can’t ever replace a guy like him or get over his absence. Alex remains memorialized in the hearts and minds of those he served and served with, and this Act will ensure he is not forgotten.”

“Alex’s memory will always carry the legacy of an elected leader who was truly devoted to all New Jerseyans,” said Oroho (R-Sussex, Warren, Morris). “Through his many years in the Assembly Alex fought for his principled beliefs that our great state and country should offer the same opportunities today as were offered to him.”
Upon his sudden death in January 2012, Assemblyman DeCroce was the longest serving member of the General Assembly. As Republican leader in the General Assembly, DeCroce served in key leadership roles and had numerous legislative achievements, including sponsoring legislation that improved the quality of life for citizens of New Jersey.
