1,900 Acres in Monmouth, Mercer & Burlington Counties Will Be Preserved for Farming, Wildlife Habitat, Parks & Greenways

The 12th District Delegation, Sen. Sam Thompson and Assemblymen Ronald S. Dancer and Rob Clifton, hailed the deal announced today by the Christie Administration to preserve the 1,900-acre Princeton Nurseries tract in Monmouth, Mercer and Burlington Counties.

“I applaud the Governor for his commitment to preserving the Princeton Nurseries property and his effort to coordinate the purchase among so many stakeholders,” Sen. Sam Thompson, R-Middlesex, Burlington, Monmouth, and Ocean said. “It should be clear to all that the preservation of important lands for future generations remains a top priority at all levels of government in New Jersey.”

Nearly 1,900 acres of nursery property will be preserved for wildlife habitat, farmland and additions to county parks and greenways along the historic Crosswicks Creek.

“This is a major accomplishment that reflects New Jersey’s commitment to farming, wildlife, open space as well as remembering New Jersey’s role in the Revolutionary War,” Assemblyman Ronald S. Dancer, R-Ocean, Burlington, Middlesex and Monmouth, said. “This land is the heart of the Garden State and it will remain in its natural state for generations to enjoy.”

The landmark $28 million purchase was conducted in cooperation with the state Green Acres Program, State Agriculture Development Committee, Monmouth County, Burlington County, the Monmouth County Conservation Foundation and Upper Freehold.

“Anything is possible when people work together toward an important goal,” Assemblyman Rob Clifton, R-Monmouth, Burlington, Middlesex and Ocean, said. “This is an enormous development for New Jersey farming, recreation and the environment that we will be able to enjoy forever.”

More information about this preservation can be found in the Department of Environmental Protection’s press release.
