Legislation co-sponsored by Senator Robert Singer (R-Monmouth, Ocean) to provide $411 million for environmental infrastructure projects across New Jersey has been signed into law by Governor Chris Christie. Nearly $12 million will fund projects to repair infrastructure and protect clean water in Sea Girt and South Monmouth.

“Storm infrastructure in Sea Girt and Southern Monmouth County sustained serious damage in Superstorm Sandy,” Senator Singer said. “Without the $11.6 million awarded to this community, it is likely that the pumping stations and drainage systems damaged during Sandy would continue to go unrepaired. This legislation will ensure that municipalities are better prepared for future storms, while protecting clean drinking water for residents statewide.”

S-2292 and S-2293 fund 80 eligible projects through the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust, including those in the “Storm Sandy and State Fiscal Year 2017 Clean Water Project Priority List” and the “Storm Sandy and State Fiscal Year 2017 Drinking Water Project Priority List,” as well as six clean water and two drinking water environmental infrastructure projects.

The NJEIT plan includes $11.50 million for four clean water projects in Sea Girt and South Monmouth, both represented by Senator Singer. These projects include:

  • Sea Girt Borough: $3.5 million to repair and upgrade stormwater drainage system; upgrade pipe extension of Baltimore Boulevard and Neptune Place outfall pipes.
  • South Monmouth: $3.4 million for structural improvements to the Belmar Pump Station.
  • South Monmouth: $3 million for multiple structural improvements to pump stations in Belmar, Lake Como, Spring Lake, Manasquan, Brielle, and Wall – all damaged during Superstorm Sandy.
  • South Monmouth: $1.6 million to repair and improve three existing sanitary sewer pump stations in Belmar, Lake Como and Spring Lake that were damaged during Superstorm Sandy; replace and/or relocate a control building; upgrade electrical and mechanical equipment; and storm proof pump stations for future storms.
