Sen. Joe Pennacchio (R-26) has proposed reforms to ensure the integrity of New Jersey elections.

Pennacchio sponsors legislation (S-238) requiring voting machines to use open source software.

Anyone, including security researchers, could review the code to ensure it’s secure and counts votes accurately.

Potential problems could be reported and fixed before Election Day.

“Two years ago, I introduced legislation that would dramatically increase election transparency and integrity by requiring all voting machine technology to be open source,” said Pennacchio. “People have the right to demand elections that are fair and honest, and this bill would help restore faith in the process.”
