Senator Urges Residents Who Will be Impacted by Improvement Project to View Transportation’s Online Presentation for Details

The New Jersey Department of Transportation is proceeding toward an extensive road project to alleviate heavy congestion and long delays for drivers on Route 15 and Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson Township.

Senator Joe Pennacchio encouraged local residents who contend with the chronic traffic congestion at the Route 15 interchange in Jefferson Township to view an online presentation about NJDOT’s improvement plans at (Pixabay)

Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) said the improvements will help residents and businesses in the area and urged those who will be affected to provide feedback and get information from NJDOT’s online presentation and virtual Public Information Center for the project.

“This heavily traveled corridor has been a headache for a long time, and we’re finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” Pennacchio said. “The presentation will help answer the public’s questions about the intersection improvement plans. This is only the first step in a process that will not be completed for more than two years.

“Families and commuters will want to make plans to adjust their travel routes and departure times once construction begins in the summer of 2022,” Pennacchio noted.

The transportation department’s web site for project information went live on June 14 and will be available to residents to leave feedback through the 27th of this month.

To address traffic nightmares in the area, NJDOT plans to build a five-lane section of roadway between Route 15 northbound and southbound.

According to a NJDOT press release announcing the Virtual Public Information Center, “this new five-lane section will include a dual left turn lane from Berkshire Valley Road southbound to Route 15 southbound. Additional improvements include widening and extending the Route 15 northbound outside through lane; the construction of sidewalks in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); the complete replacement of the two traffic signals; and upgrades to the existing stormwater conveyance system and guide rail.”

“This is a major construction effort that will present disruptions for those who travel these roads, but the traffic engineers assure us it will be worth it in the long run,” Pennacchio said. “To ensure they know what to expect throughout the project, residents are urged to take a moment to visit the web site and view the presentation at”
