Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-Morris, Passaic, Essex) issued the following statement today regarding President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL oil pipeline:

“Construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline would have created tens of thousands of jobs, reduced dependence on oil from the Middle East and helped keep energy costs low,” said Pennacchio. “President Obama’s rejection of the pipeline in the eleventh hour of his presidency to appease special interest environmentalists is a slap in the face to the American people.

“What good are Democrats’ legislative initiatives if at the same time they are taking away jobs?” Pennacchio continued. “I hope that labor groups that would have stood to gain years of job security through the construction of this pipeline take a moment today to think about the consequences of their support of job-killing Democrat leadership. How much longer will labor and union officials continue to pledge their support to Democrat leaders who stand in the way of job creation?”
