State Senator Michael J. Doherty (R- Warren, Hunterdon) issued the following statement condemning U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg’s politically motivated investigation into Governor Christie’s cancellation of the ARC Tunnel project:

“Senator Lautenberg’s so-called investigation is a partisan charade and an embarrassment to himself and the people of New Jersey,” said Senator Doherty. “Senator Lautenberg couldn’t deliver a funding arrangement for the ARC tunnel project that was fair to the taxpayers of this state and is now seeking to shift the blame for his failure. Governor Christie did the right thing in cancelling this project.

Senator Joe Pennacchio, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement regarding U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg’s pronouncement that he will investigate the circumstances surrounding the cancellation of the ARC tunnel:

“Quite frankly, Frank Lautenberg’s decision to investigate Governor Christie’s cancellation of the ARC tunnel is, at best, puzzling. There must be at least a dozen federal and state agencies equipped to investigate all levels of government and I can’t recall one that answers to New Jersey’s Junior U.S. Senator.

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean made the following statement today after Senator Phil Haines was confirmed to be a Judge of the Superior Court:

“Phil Haines is an effective legislator and a good friend. His understanding and insight of the issues facing New Jersey will be sorely missed by the entire Senate Chamber. However, the Senate’s loss is the court’s gain. Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean issued the following statement regarding legislation introduced today that would reform the NJSIAA:

“For more than 90 years the NJSIAA has worked to ensure that scholastic sports in New Jersey are safe, fair and affordable for the students, families and districts. I too am concerned about some of the financial lapses that were describe in the report issued by the State Commission of Investigation but by no means do these allegations require that the NJSIAA be dismantled. The Legislature must repair what is broken in the organization without destroying all the good the NJSIAA has accomplished for the better part of a century.”
