Following the announcement of the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s (ABC) special ruling on breweries, District 24 legislators Senator Steve Oroho, Assemblyman Parker Space, and Assemblyman Hal Wirths issued the following statement in support of New Jersey’s brewery workers and entrepreneurs.

“We must do more to encourage business growth in our state. Forcing breweries to limit events is an obstacle that will inhibit their development,” Oroho said. “Breweries have become extremely popular and an integral part of our tourism industry. Events at breweries also build community and bring people together – often for a good cause. I would not want to see burdensome regulations deter such opportunities. The ABC’s new regulations have gone too far, and I believe we can arrive at a better solution that ensures that breweries and restaurants can not only coexist, but thrive.”

“Last week’s ABC’s special ruling is a hallmark example of the kind of red tape we need to cut in order to support our local breweries,” Space said. “These entrepreneurs deserve to have a fair opportunity to attract and encourage people from across New Jersey, and the surrounding states. They cannot afford to put up with unnecessary regulations. Nor should they have to. We should be encouraging these craft entrepreneurs to set up shop in the Garden State, not driving them away.”

“New Jersey’s mom-and-pop shops make countless financial and personal sacrifices to grow their businesses. Our breweries are no different,” Wirths said. “The ABC’s new regulations will make it difficult to build a business from the ground up. I encourage our leaders, both in the legislature and the ABC, to change course and immediately reevaluate this bad business decision.”
