District 24 Legislators Earn Designation from New Jersey Taxpayers Alliance

Senator Steve Oroho, Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose and Assemblyman Parker Space, R-Sussex, Warren, Morris, announced today they were recognized as “Taxpayer Champions” by the New Jersey Taxpayers Alliance (NJTA).

“Standing up for taxpayers in New Jersey is job number one for Alison, Parker, and me,” said Oroho, who serves on the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee. “We are continuing our mission to make New Jersey more competitive to bring in new businesses and private sector jobs and it starts with making sure our tax policies are attractive.”

This is the third report card which the New Jersey Taxpayers Alliance is rating Members of the Legislature. They looked at seven key tax and regulatory votes in both the Senate and Assembly. Oroho, McHose, and Space each scored a perfect score of 100. Oroho and McHose, along with then Assemblyman Gary Chiusano, all received perfect scores of 100 in 2009 and 2011.

“The New Jersey Taxpayers Alliance and their members have long recognized that we have been working to lower the cost of government and create a stable environment for businesses that want to grow here,” said McHose, a member of the Assembly Appropriations Committee. “Our approach, which is working, stands in stark contrast to the massive increases in taxes and spending under Democrat leadership that drove businesses and jobs from the Garden State in the last decade.”

The score card consisted of votes of support for reforms of business taxes and incentives to create jobs, fraud fighting measures to support the Unemployment Insurance fund and bills to streamline bureaucratic red tape while votes to oppose a job-killing income tax hike. Almost all of the pro-taxpayer bills were authored or sponsored by Oroho, McHose, and Space.

“In the last decade, the Democrat majorities in the legislature raised taxes 120 times and now have refused to post the remaining ‘Tool Kit’ bills to reform and lower property taxes,” said Space, himself a small business owner. “This is the same tired old fiscal policies and stonewalling of reform that left our state broke and so overwhelmed with taxes and debt that people and businesses alike have been forced to move out of state. Along with the Governor’s and Lt. Governor’s leadership, we have been changing that and Steve, Alison and I are appreciative that a light is being shed on who is standing up for beleaguered taxpayers.”

NJTA Chairman Jerry Cantrell looks forward to the upcoming legislative term with “Taxpayer Advocates” Oroho, McHose, and Space leading the way.

“So in the coming year with the strong support of Steve, Alison, and Parker, we hope to see a return to a focus on the issues that ushered in the Christie administration – the 33-Tool Kit Platform agenda which held great promise for permanent reforms that would set the state on track for a robust economic turnaround,” said Cantrell. “Today’s announcement of the 2013 Taxpayer Advocates is designed to help all New Jerseyans have a better understanding as to who fights for their interests in Trenton.”
