Senator Steve Oroho, Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose and Assemblyman Gary Chiusano, R-24, announced today, they were recognized as “Taxpayer Champions” by the New Jersey Taxpayer Alliance.

“Standing up for taxpayers in New Jersey is job number one for Alison, Gary and me,” said Oroho, who serves on the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee. “We are continuing our mission to make New Jersey more competitive to bring in new businesses and private sector jobs and it starts with making sure our tax policies are attractive.”

This is the second report card which the New Jersey Taxpayer Alliance is rating Members of the Legislature. They looked at seven key tax votes in the Senate and Assembly. Oroho, McHose, and Chiusano each scored a perfect score of 100. They also received a perfect score of 100 in 2009.

“The New Jersey Taxpayer Alliance and their members have long recognized that we have been working to lower the cost of government and create a stable environment for businesses that want to grow here,” said McHose. “Our approach, which is working, stands in stark contrast to the massive increases in taxes and spending under Democratic leadership that drove businesses and jobs from the Garden State in the last decade.”

The votes that were scored consisted of those which reformed business taxes to create jobs and opposition to increases in the income tax; create the 2 percent property tax cap; cap binding arbitration awards to hold the line on property tax increases; streamline bureaucratic red tape; and made positive reforms to the pension and benefit systems of public employees.

“In the last decade, the Democrat majorities in the legislature raised taxes 120 times,” said Chiusano, a member of the Assembly Budget Committee. “And this year the Trenton Democrats tried to pass another tax and spend budget. But this is the same tired old fiscal policy that left our state broke and so overwhelmed with taxes and debt that people and businesses alike have been forced to move out of state. We’re beginning to change that and Steve, Alison and I are appreciative that a light is being shed on who is standing up for beleaguered taxpayers.”
