Within the lines of the Democrats’ $50.6 billion budget, state support for Planned Parenthood was doubled to more than $40 million, an increase Senator Ed Durr called “disgraceful.”

Sen. Ed Durr blasted the Administration’s commitment of more than $40 million to Planned Parenthood in the FY2023 budget, saying it will help fund on-demand abortions in the state. (SenateNJ.com)

“It is a sad situation in New Jersey where we have a Governor who is more committed to aborting babies than helping residents struggling to keep their heads above water under his reckless fiscal management,” said Durr (R-3). “While young mothers who carry their babies to term stress over buying formula, paying the rent, and rising taxes, the Murphy Administration has made terminating pregnancies a priority.”

The abortion-promoting entity Planned Parenthood received $19.5 million for “family planning” in the previous budget. At the last minute, the Legislature added $10.5 million more In FY2023 budget that gives them $30 million in operating support.

An additional budget line item provides $10 million more for “facility upgrades.”

“This is exactly what we’ve come to expect from this Governor,” said Durr. “He is an avowed friend of abortionists. The very first bill Phil Murphy signed as Governor in February 2018 restored funding to Planned Parenthood after the previous administration removed tax payer funded abortions on demand.”

Durr sponsors legislation (S-1567) that would prohibit the use of state funds for the termination of a woman’s pregnancy for any reason except where it is medically necessary to preserve the woman’s life.

“A newborn child is a gift,” Durr noted. “It is indefensible for government to spend taxpayer money to prevent babies from being born. Trenton should be helping families remain together and thrive, but instead it is funding abortion. We have lost our moral way in this state.”
