Lauding it a sound investment as part of the state’s rebuilding and recovery efforts, Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove praised the awarding of a $141,000 State Marketing Grant to Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.

The grant was recently approved by the State Division of Travel and Tourism. Grant monies will be utilized by the Chamber as part of its continuing efforts to promote tourism in Southern Ocean County which includes efforts to reach out to new markets, help to promote businesses and expand the area’s shoulder season.

The 9th District legislators issued the following statement on the Chamber being selected as a state Marketing Grant recipient:

“In order to be competitive in these challenging economic times, it is essential that New Jersey make sound investments in the state’s economic strengths, which includes our tourism and fishing industries.

“With its pristine beaches and rich fishing tradition, Southern Ocean County plays a significant role in the state’s tourism industry. Awarding the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce with a state marketing grant is consistent with that overall effort, especially as we move forward to rebuild following Super Storm Sandy.

“The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce continues to serve as a consistent and effective voice in marketing Long Beach Island as a world class vacation destination. Over the years, the Chamber has been committed to creating opportunities for local businesses to expand and prosper.”

Lori Pepenella, Destination Marketing & Communications Director for the Chamber, added “The LBI Region Destination Marketing Organization was established as the marketing arm for the Southern Ocean County Chamber when the program was launched in 2008. Our efforts have been directed toward advocating for the area and tourism in New Jersey by working with local and state organizations. To support this effort, the Visitor Center is operated year round and has provided a resource at the gateway of Long Beach Island for generations.

“The grant funding will allow for the Chamber to conduct a more effective and aggressive marketing plan that showcases all that our area has to offer as an ideal vacation destination. Also, the awarding of grant money is timely as the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce is counting down to a century of service and will celebrate its 100th Anniversary in 2014.”
