Senator Christopher Connors, Assemblyman Brian Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove urged residents opposed to this proposal to sign the online petition they launched to stop this and other efforts by Governor Murphy to establish New Jersey as a sanctuary state.

The petition can be signed online at

Connors, Rumpf and Gove issued the following statement:

“Supporters of New Jersey becoming a sanctuary state just got a big boost from Governor Murphy who recently described legislation to allow illegal aliens to obtain driver’s licenses a ‘no brainer.’  Coming straight from the Executive Branch, this sends a chilling message to taxpaying citizens living in this country legally who are being sold out by elected officials and special interest groups hell-bent on turning New Jersey into the California of the east coast.

“It should be a ‘no brainer’ that only legal citizens are eligible to obtain a driver’s license.

“Individuals who drive for a living now face the alarming prospect of competition for their jobs from illegal aliens willing to work for less.  The opportunity to get a driver’s license will only entice more illegal aliens to locate to New Jersey, placing greater strain on the state’s already stretched resources, including vital health care and education services.

“More than 21,000 people have already signed our petition to stop New Jersey from becoming a sanctuary state.  That is a powerful and unmistakably clear message that the State Legislature and Governor’s Office must understand and accept when considering the very serious economic, legal and fiscal implications involved.

“If you haven’t signed the petition, now is the time to make your voice heard before it’s too late because, in Trenton, no law is too extreme for the controlling interests.”
