Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove today praised the Governor’s appointments to the Veterans’ Hospital Task Force which was established to study and evaluate, and develop recommendations relating to, the construction and operation of a veterans’ health care facility in southern New Jersey.

The 9th District Delegation sponsored the law enacted this February that established the Task Force. Senator Connors and Assemblywoman Gove, both of whom serve on the Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee of their respective Houses, were named by the Governor earlier this year to serve as Legislative representatives on the Task Force.

Members recently named to the New Jersey Veterans’ Hospital Task Force as Veteran Leaders and Public Members who reside in counties represented by the 9th Legislative District include; Eugene J. O’Grady (Barnegat, Ocean County), Colonel Debra Ellen Burr (Toms River, Ocean County), Isaac J. Rucker (Galloway, Atlantic County), Richard A. Pitman (Linwood, Atlantic County) and Bernard Epworth (Marlton, Burlington County).

Connors, Rumpf and Gove issued the following statement after the announcement of the new appointees to the Task Force:

“The members recently appointed to the New Jersey Veterans’ Hospital Task Force ensure that the Shore area will have a strong presence in the ongoing effort to bring a veterans’ hospital to South Jersey. Our Delegation is extremely pleased that the process to appoint members is moving with all deliberate speed so the important work of the Task Force can commence.

“In addition to having two members from our own Delegation serving on the Task Force, we also submitted Mr. Eugene O’Grady’s name to the Governor’s Office for consideration in light of his tremendous work with the Ocean County Chapter of the American Legion, including serving as its Commander. Over the years, we have relied on Gene as an invaluable resource for his unique insight and understanding of how the state can better serve the needs of our veterans. With his impeccable credentials, Gene will undoubtedly make significant contributions as a member of the Task Force.

“The population shift in our state over the past several decades has lead to a tremendous increase in the number of veterans now living in South Jersey. In the absence of a veterans’ hospital in the southern end of the state, local veterans have been forced to travel unreasonable distances, sometimes having to travel as far as Delaware, to receive medical care. Our Delegation finds the current situation unacceptable and, therefore, is proud to be working with veterans and other persons with specialized expertise to address
