9th District legislators Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove met with Executive Director Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim and other officials of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority as part of the ongoing discussions on the prospect of building a commuter lot off of Garden State Parkway Exit 58.

Ocean County Freeholder Jack Kelly, Little Egg Harbor Mayor John Kehm, Jr. and Deputy Mayor Ray Gormley, as well as a representative of the Governor’s Office also participated in the meeting.

Working closely with County and local officials, the 9th District Delegation initiated talks with the Authority for construction of a commuter lot in order to provide an appropriate, convenient and safe site at which commuters can leave their vehicles. In the absence of any other alternative, commuters have been forced over the years to leave their vehicles in a poorly lit dirt lot riddled with pot holes located off of Route 539.

Senator Connors, Assemblyman Rumpf and Assemblywoman Gove issued the following statement regarding their meeting:

“Overall, we feel the meeting was very productive as all parties involved discussed the proposed commuter lot in the context of a regional infrastructure need. While recognizing that there is still more work to be done, we are more optimistic than at any other time during the ongoing deliberations, that there is a general consensus of how important this proposal is for Southern Ocean County.

“During the meeting, we were advised that the Authority’s engineers will conduct an expedited review of the commuter lot proposal so that future deliberations will focus more on specific aspects of the project.

“Again, we are grateful that that the Executive Director personally attended the meeting and that several representatives of the Authority were present to address any inquiries that were raised.”
