Five projects benefiting communities in Atlantic, Burlington and Camden counties totaling more than $16 million will be funded through the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust, which was designed to target clean water and drinking water projects throughout the state.

“This funding will make a huge difference in the safety of the systems that manage the water that we drink, as well as the water that goes down our drains,” Senator Addiego said. “This funding will go a long way in ensuring our communities have the facilities they need to get clean water to our residents.”

The NJEIT financing plan includes $6.5 million for two projects in Hammonton (S340927-09 and 0113001-011) to make stormwater improvements, as well as replace old and undersized water mains.

“Many of these projects would have been too expensive for individual municipalities to finance themselves,” Assemblyman Howarth said. “It was critical to allocate additional money to the NJEIT in order to get these projects done.”

In Pemberton, $1.2 million from the NJEIT will finance the rehabilitation of an existing township well in the Browns Mills Section. The project (0338001-009) will add a radium treatment facility, bringing the well back online and in conformance with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection safe drinking standards.

There will be $7 million in funding for a project (0338001-009) at the Willingboro MUA, which also provides water for Westampton Township, that will include construction of a radium removal treatment facility at an existing well site.

In Pine Hill, $1.7 million from the NJEIT will be used to repair an old pumping station and make new connections to the water main.

“Not only will this funding make our water cleaner, it will make us better prepared for future storms,” Assemblywoman Rodriguez-Gregg said. “It will be great to see these projects get under way.”
