LD-13 Offices in Holmdel and Middletown Remain Open to Answer Officials/Constituent Questions and Concerns

Senator Declan O’Scanlon, Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso, and Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger issued the following statement in response to growing concerns about COVID-19:

O’Scanlon, DiMaso, and Scharfenberger issued the following statement in response to growing concerns about COVID-19. (CDC)

“The health of the Monmouth County community is our priority during this tumultuous time, particularly for those who are most vulnerable to contracting the disease or having adverse outcomes once sick. It is imperative to keep the public up-to-date with the best information available on how to prevent, identify, and remedy COVID-19. Our district office is prepared to serve as a resource center for our community and to help answer questions and address emergent needs.

“As you may know, four individuals from Monmouth County have contracted COVID-19. While they are being treated we remain vigilant to the potential, if not the likelihood, of new local cases. New Jersey has declared a State of Emergency to better support efforts of our local, county, state, and federal officials to address the outbreak. However, please know that a declared State of Emergency does not mean travel restrictions or that the public should panic. The primary purpose is to allow the State to access funding and resources only triggered during a State of Emergency. Our legislative offices are working closely with Gov. Murphy and New Jersey public health directors.

“Many public schools and colleges are enacting public health-related closures and schedule changes. While there are no confirmed cases at the college, Monmouth University has cancelled all classes (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) for the remainder of this week, with spring break beginning as scheduled on Saturday, March 14. Rutgers University will cancel classes Thursday, March 12, through the end of spring break, Sunday, March 22. Beginning on Monday, March 23, all course instruction will be delivered remotely. Red Bank Regional High School has closed for two days for thorough cleaning.

“Local elected officials and concerned constituents have reached out to our offices with various questions and concerns. Our staff has compiled numerous resource links to better address Monmouth County leaders and residents:

“The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised people to cover coughs and sneezes, avoid touching parts of your face, clean and disinfect frequently touched objects, stay home if you are sick except to get medical care, and wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

“Our offices can be contacted at (732) 444-1838 or (732) 383-7820 with any questions.”
