State Senator Gerald Cardinale (R- Bergen), ranking Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement regarding today’s press conference held by Korean community leaders in response to the rejection of Phillip Kwon’s nomination to the New Jersey Supreme Court:

The Korean community is right to be outraged not only because Democrats on the judiciary committee rejected a member of their community, but because they rejected a nominee with impeccable credentials, unimpeachable personal integrity, and a long record of service to our state and our country.

Mr. Kwon was rejected not for any legitimate reason, but simply as part of a crass political game that put partisan interests ahead of confirming a perfectly well-qualified nominee to our state’s highest court.

If just one member of the committee changed his or her vote, this egregious error in judgment could be reversed and Phil Kwon could be considered by the full Senate.
