Senator Anthony Bucco (R- Morris) is honored to have been recognized last week by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey for his work as prime sponsor of a new law requiring children under the age of 18 to wear ski helmets in an effort to prevent sports related brain injury. Senator Bucco and five other legislators were recognized as part of the Alliance’s advocacy efforts on National Brain Injury Awareness Day (March 15).

“Preventing sports related brain injury in young people is finally today getting the attention it deserves by policymakers in Trenton and Washington,” said Senator Bucco. “Whether it is on the football field, on the slopes, or anywhere else where children can suffer debilitating and even-life threatening injuries to their developing brains, we must do more in the line of prevention and awareness. I have always enjoyed a strong working relationship with the Brain Injury Alliance, and am honored to be recognized by the group for my work on what seems like such a common sense piece of legislation.”

Senator Bucco’s legislation, signed last year, was inspired by advocacy of a Morris County physician, Dr. Norman San Augustin, who lost his daughter to a skiing accident in Vernon in 1988.
