Senators: Christie-Led Budget Compromise Validates How the People Feel About NJ’s Turnaround

Senate Republican Budget and Appropriation Committee members Anthony Bucco, Steve Oroho and Joe Pennacchio issued the following statements regarding today’s FY 2014 budget advancement:

“This budget is a positive sign that Democrats in this legislature are now all on board with New Jersey’s economic turnaround led by the Christie administration, which has revenues and private sector job gains growing each month,” said Budget Officer Bucco (R-Morris). “It’s unfortunate the budget lacks a much-needed tax cut and an opportunity scholarship program, but it proves that together we can position this state for economic growth instead of growth in government. It is a good step to show that we can make government spend within its means at all levels, just as New Jersey families and employers must do.”

“Governor Christie was able to work with Budget Chairman Sarlo and Senate Democrats to produce a responsible budget that funds important mandates, such as record pension and education funding,” said Pennacchio (R-Morris). “Under the failed leadership of Corzine and Senator Barbara Buono in 2008, New Jersey’s budget spent more of the people’s money and brought government to a standstill.”

“For the third year under the Christie administration’s leadership, this budget continues tax cut reforms for small and large business to continue adding workers throughout the state and building on New Jersey’s improving economy,” said Oroho (R-Sussex). “In order to replace more of the hundreds of thousands of jobs lost before Governor Christie took office we need to do more to make New Jersey competitive and to turn back the oppressive regulations and red tape that have hamstrung businesses for decades.”
