“After a tough year, we’ve heard from a number of bar and restaurant owners who are looking for opportunities to convince patrons to start dining out again,” said Bucco (R-25). “The ‘Shot and a Beer’ program has the potential to encourage New Jerseyans in every community to return to the local eateries and watering holes they may not have visited since the pandemic began. Once people visit for the first time and realize it’s safe, we hope it will become part of their regular routines again.”

In partnership with the Brewer’s Guild of New Jersey, the Governor’s Office and the Department of Health launched the “Shot and a Beer” program to encourage eligible New Jerseyans ages 21 and over to get vaccinated.

Any New Jerseyan who gets their first vaccine dose in the month of May and takes their vaccination card to a participating brewery as proof of vaccination will receive a free beer, courtesy of the participating brewery. This program will end on May 31st, 2021.

According to the New Jersey COVID-19 Information Hub, 34 breweries across the State were participating in the program as of May 4.

Bucco said there’s no reason why other bars and restaurants shouldn’t be able to participate in the “Shot and a Beer” program.

“There’s no cost to taxpayers as the free drinks are paid for by the establishments that want to participate,” added Bucco. “Expanding the program shouldn’t be difficult, and it would be a big help to all of those who are looking to get customers through their doors again.”
