“New Jersey is home to more than 400,000 veterans, and too many are unable to access the help they need,” said Bucco (R-25). “In towns or counties where there is a definite need for more services for veterans who are struggling, this bill provides an opportunity for local governments to pitch in to help.”

Bucco’s bill, S-2640, would allow counties and municipalities to appropriate up to $70,000 in voluntary contributions to nonprofit veterans’ organizations located within the county or municipality.

“It is a preventable tragedy when veterans, scarred from their service to our great country, cannot get the help they desperately need,” added Bucco. “We want to help more organizations be in a position to aid more men and women who are struggling to adapt to life beyond the military and help make New Jersey the best place to live for veterans.”

Counties and municipalities are currently authorized to make contributions, up to $70,000 annually, to volunteer emergency services associations. Bucco’s bill would expand that option to include nonprofit veterans’ organizations located within the county or municipality.
