The legislation, S-1882, clarifies that the license of any active duty member of the Armed Forces of the Unites States or an immediate family member would remain valid for up to 90 days after the person returns to New Jersey.

“Serving our nation in the military is a commitment that demands sacrifice and mobility,” said Bucco (R-25). “Keeping track of paperwork, deadlines and expirations while moving to new assignments and locations can be overwhelming. This legislation eliminates one more thing from their list to worry about.

“Considering the sacrifices they make for our freedoms, it is a well-earned courtesy to allow them a grace period on expiring motor vehicle paperwork,” said Bucco.

The extensions provided by the bill would also pertain to motor vehicle registrations and non-driver identification cards.
