“Many service members maintain out-of-county or out-of-state addresses and are unable to qualify for the resident tuition rate at their local county college,” said Bramnick (R-21). “The men and women in our military make enormous sacrifices to protect our freedom and they should not have to deal with excessive government red tape or outdated laws. This legislation will make sure that, regardless of their address, they will always pay the local, county-level tuition rate in New Jersey.”

Under current law, members of the military who are enrolled in public institutions of higher education are considered state residents for the purposes of qualifying for in-state tuition. This benefit is also extended to the dependents of military members. Bramnick’s bill, S-1580, will ensure that military personnel and their dependents receive a similar in-county tuition benefit.
