Senator Kristin M. Corrado is a lifelong resident of the Borough of Totowa. She is a graduate of East Stroudsburg University and Seton Hall Law School. Kristin has been an attorney for more than 30 years, is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Florida, and is a Passaic County Bar Association member.
A small business owner, Kristin is a partner in the law firm of Corrado and Corrado, Esqs., with her father, Robert E Corrado. They have a general practice firm specializing in real estate and probate transactions. Senator Corrado currently represents the Borough of Totowa as their municipal attorney.
Senator Corrado was appointed to the New Jersey Senate to represent the 40th Legislative District on October 5, 2017, to succeed Senator Kevin O'Toole. She was elected to serve a full term to the Senate in 2017 and re-elected in 2021. As Senator, Kristin serves as the Ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Economic Growth, Transportation, and Education Committees. She is also a member of the Mental Health Advisory Committee, Prison Reentry Commission, and the Legislative Disability Caucus. In the Senate, Senator Corrado has been a strong proponent of first responders, advocate for the state's developmentally challenged population, and passed monumental legislation such as establishing June 12th as Women's Veterans Appreciation Day.
Prior to serving in the New Jersey Senate, Kristin was the Passaic County Clerk. She was first elected County Clerk in November 2009 and was re-elected in 2014. As the Passaic County Clerk, Kristin opened a satellite office in Wanaque and expanded their Outreach Program for passports and notary services throughout the county at no additional cost to the taxpayers. Additionally, Kristin partnered with the county's Department of Veterans' Affairs to bring back the Veterans ID Program, sponsored toy drives for the Passaic Vicinage National Adoption Day Celebration, performed 1,500 wedding ceremonies, and worked with Blue Star Mothers to collect necessities for our soldiers currently serving overseas and in Military Hospitals. She also was a member of the Passaic County Military Appreciation Committee and was instrumental in establishing 'Socks For Soldiers' Program to collect and provide necessities for soldiers and homeless veterans-a collection she has continued with her State Senate Office.
Kristin is the daughter of Bob and Eileen Corrado of Totowa. She is the second of seven children, with four sisters and two brothers. She is married to Stan Alcala and is step-Mom to Danny, Matt, and Nicole. Kristin and Stan are grandparents to Mia, Valentina, and Daniel Alcala.
