Island Heights Grade School Teacher Lori Romano Honored

Senator Andy Ciesla and Assemblymen Jim Holzapfel and Dave Wolfe of the 10th Legislative District presented the 11th Annual Excellence in Education Award during a ceremony at the Island Heights Grade School in Island Heights to third grade teacher Lori Romano.

“This year we are honored to give the Excellence in Education Award to Mrs. Romano because of her continued enthusiasm and commitment to the art of teaching children,” said Senator Ciesla. “She demonstrates the highest level of professionalism and is well respected throughout the school and her community.”

A graduate of Fordham University and resident of Manasquan, Mrs. Romano started her career at Island Heights Grade School in 2003. She has developed techniques specifically in Language Arts, Mathematics and Social Studies, to enhance student learning in a meaningful and engaging manner. As a third grade teacher, her students have performed at the highest levels possible in state testing, with a 100% passing rate.

“The success rate in Mrs. Romano‚Äôs class is outstanding,” said Assemblyman Holzapfel. “Each year, her students continue to exceed all expectations and we are honored to have such a dedicated and positive teacher working in our district.”

The 10th District legislators present the Excellence in Education Award annually to the elementary, middle school or high school teacher within the legislative district who best exemplifies commitment and dedication to classroom teaching.

“This award given to Mrs. Romano is a representation of the dedication, innovativeness and passion she has for the art of education,” Assemblyman Wolfe added. “Her outstanding resume is a reflection of the Island Heights school district and all teachers should emulate her successful classroom techniques.”
