Senator Jennifer Beck’s (R-Monmouth) Sandy foreclosure protection legislation, which was signed by the Governor last month, has been put into effect by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

Sen. Jennifer Beck’s legislation created foreclosure protections for victims of Superstorm Sandy. Applications are now being accepted by DCA. (FEMA)

“I’ve heard from Sandy-impacted homeowners how much of a financial burden it is to attempt to float mortgage and rental payments while trying to rebuild.” Beck said “To the greatest extent possible, we should be trying to remove the barriers stopping these families from finally getting back home.”

DCA has contacted all FEMA and RREM/LMI recipients who might be eligible.

Sandy homeowners who believe they may qualify can submit an application on DCA’s website starting today, March 31st, until the application period closes on May 31st at 5:00pm.

You may be eligible for a Sandy-Impacted Forbearance Certification if:

  • You have an outstanding mortgage obligation on your primary residence, which has been damaged by Superstorm Sandy;
  • You have been approved for assistance through the RREM or LMI programs or have received rental assistance from FEMA; and
  • You have construction or elevation work that remains to be done on your primary residence, which is the result of damage sustained in Superstorm Sandy.

The application must be completed online. All applicants must have an email address to apply. Applications will be reviewed within 30 days of DCA receiving a completed application.
