The resolution calls for the United States Air Force and Congress to station new KC-46A tanker plans at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst

A resolution (SR-64) sponsored by Senator Diane Allen (R-Burlington) urging the United States Air Force and Congress to bring a new mission to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst – New Jersey’s second largest employer – was passed by the New Jersey Senate.

“So many New Jersey residents work at the Joint Base,” Senator Allen said. “It’s important that we do whatever we can to bring in new missions and ensure it remains a viable military base for years to come.”

Joint Base MDL is one of 11 military installations nationwide that are being evaluated by the Air Force to be the home base of the new KC-46A tanker planes. However, according to recent reports, it is now one of just five bases being considered. The Joint Base already has a major air mobility refueling mission with its contingent of KC-10 and KC-135 tanker aircraft. However, those planes are aging and need to be replaced.

Joint Base MDL is the only tri-service base in the country and covers more than 42,000 acres in Burlington and Ocean counties. The base supports more than 40,000 military and civilian employees and contributes more than $7 billion annually to the state’s economy.

“The capabilities, facilities and infrastructure needed to support these new tanker plans already exist at Joint Base MDL,” Senator Allen said. “I might be biased as a fierce supporter of the base, but I think having those things already in place make Joint Base MDL the perfect place to station those new planes.”
