“The speed with which many law enforcement agencies coordinated to identify and capture the suspect behind this weekend’s bombings is impressive and a testament to their professionalism and improved ability to work together,” said Kean. “We owe a debt of gratitude to the New Jersey State Police, NYPD, FBI and local law enforcement around Elizabeth, Linden and Seaside Park. I also want to wish the victims of the bombings and the two police officers injured in the suspect’s capture a full and speedy recovery.”

The suspect, Ahmad Khan Rahami, is believed to be responsible for the detonation of an explosive device in a trash can in Seaside Park on Saturday along the route of the Seaside Semper Five 5K race to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps and MARSOC Foundation.

According to law enforcement, he also is linked to an explosion and an unexploded device found in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan on Saturday, as well as a device that was found by residents Sunday night at the Elizabeth train station and reported to police.

“The residents who found the unexploded bomb at the Elizabeth train station may have saved lives by calling the police to report the device,” added Kean. “Can you imagine what might have happened if the bomb hadn’t been reported and was left to explode during rush hour? This is a valuable reminder that ‘see something, say something’ is the job of every citizen to help keep us safe.”
