Assemblyman David W. Wolfe Lauds Decision to Keep State’s Sea Girt Training Facility
Assemblyman David W. Wolfe said local opposition to Governor Corzine’s plan to sell the Sea Girt facility used for training by the State Police, New Jersey National Guard and several other agencies has succeeded.
During budget testimony today, Attorney General Anne Milgram confirmed the administration no longer is considering a sale.
“This land is vital to our state’s public safety but also provides a recreational site for many communities,” Wolfe, R-Ocean, said. “Thankfully, heated opposition by local residents has once again thwarted another plot by Governor Corzine to sell off state assets instead of making the tough decisions to reduce the size of government.”
Reports surfaced a year ago that the Corzine administration was sizing up the land to sell for redevelopment.
“The sale would have provided a one-shot cash infusion, but that money likely would have been squandered before the land was redeveloped in a way that would have driven up costs for local taxpayers,” Wolfe said.
