Senate Republican Leader Thomas Kean issued the following statement regarding comments made by Senator Jeff Van Drew in today’s edition of the Press of Atlantic City. The Republican Caucus has been calling for a moratorium on new spending since the session of the legislature began in January.
“I am pleased that Senator Van Drew has joined the Republican caucus in calling for fiscal discipline by the governor and the rest of the Trenton Democrats. It is high time that a member of the party that over six short years has raised taxes by $12 billion, doubled borrowing and cut school and municipal aid realized that ‘enough is enough.’
“I am also happy that Senator Van Drew made these comments before the next Senate session to vote on the paid family leave bill that mandates a new $130 million payroll tax. I trust Senator Van Drew to live up to his published comments and vote against paid family leave.
“I hope that Senator Van Drew will join us in the future fighting for fiscal responsibility and ethics reform.”
