Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean, District 21, issued the following statement in support of the effort to put a $400 million bond issue on the November ballot that would pay for preservation of open space.
“Bonding is appropriate when it pays for projects such as open space preservation that will benefit our state far into future. I believe voters should have the opportunity to decide whether to preserve open land before it is lost to development. Our children deserve the legacy this legislation provides.”
Senate Bill 1858 originally asked voters to approve $600 million. The bill was amended to reduce the total borrowing to $400 million. The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee voted to approve the bill today.
