Kean: Governor Corzine, Why the Double Standard?

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean (R-21) voiced his concern today that New Jersey’s next budget will once again be passed late in the night with details shrouded in secrecy.

“The Republicans submitted our budget proposal and made it available to the public before the deadline we were given, and today it seems that Democrats are unwilling or unable to meet their own deadline and share their proposed changes with the public, ” Kean stated. “Rather then arguing amongst themselves Democrats should review and adopt the Republican plan for an affordable New Jersey.”

Published reports stated that Governor Corzine and Democratic lawmakers are unable to reach a compromise and are more than likely to fail to meet their own self - imposed deadline of passing next year ‘ s state budget by June 16.

“Unfortunately, New Jersey’s budget has become a partisan issue, ” Kean continued. “The Republicans are open to discussion and want to work with Governor Corzine and the Democratic Majority to help make New Jersey affordable and Trenton accountable.”
